The much awaited Mirzapur: The Movie has cleared the censor process with an ‘A’ certificate, but not without a few modifications. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly asked the makers to make changes to intimate sequences and certain dialogues before granting the film its theatrical clearance. According to reports, the board instructed the filmmakers to reduce the impact of two intimate sequences by around 50 per cent through changes to both visuals and sound. The modifications resulted in approximately 35 seconds of intimate content being removed from the final cut.

The CBFC also sought changes to the film’s language. Cuss words were reportedly muted at four points, while abusive expressions were replaced with alternative wording at six other places. Certain other dialogue references were also modified during the certification process. Interestingly, despite the changes to intimate content and language, the film’s violent and gory sequences were reportedly left untouched by the censor board. This has sparked curiosity among fans of the Mirzapur franchise, which is widely known for its gritty crime world and intense violence. The film has received a final runtime of 197 minutes and 19 seconds, making it more than three hours long.

Despite the edits, reports suggest that the makers have retained much of the raw and intense tone associated with the popular franchise. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, Mirzapur: The Movie brings back several familiar faces from the series, including Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi. The film is set to expand the battle for power from the streaming world to the big screen. The movie is scheduled to hit theatres on September 4, 2026, and expectations are high among fans who have followed the franchise since its debut. With the CBFC cuts now revealed, the big question is whether the theatrical version will retain the same unfiltered edge that made Mirzapur a phenomenon on streaming.
