Mumbai’s Bandra West witnessed a heartbreaking road accident on Sunday after an eight year old boy, Ansh Ravindra Gupta, was fatally struck by an SUV while crossing the road near Jijamata Garden. The child was rushed to hospital but could not be saved. The tragedy has become even more painful for Ansh’s family after reports revealed that the Class 3 student was due to celebrate his birthday on September 2, just days after the fatal accident. According to reports, Ansh was the only son of his parents and had been born after 15 years of marriage.

The accident reportedly occurred on August 30 between 2.15 pm and 2.30 pm on John Baptist Road, near Jijamata Garden in Bandra West. Ansh had reportedly gone to the garden to play and was returning home when he was allegedly hit while crossing the road. Following the collision, the injured child was taken to Holy Family Hospital. Doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police subsequently arrested the driver, identified as 45 year old Megha Rawal, in connection with the fatal crash. Police are also investigating allegations that the driver may have been using a mobile phone while driving. Authorities said the claim is being examined as part of the ongoing probe, while the vehicle is also expected to undergo technical inspection to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The incident has left Ansh’s parents devastated. His father, Arvind Gupta, has publicly appealed for justice, describing Ansh as his only child and expressing disbelief over the loss. Emotional visuals of the grieving family have also emerged following the incident. Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act, including charges relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and dangerous driving. The investigation is continuing, with authorities examining witness accounts and other evidence. For the Gupta family, what should have been a week of birthday preparations has instead become a period of unimaginable grief. As the investigation moves forward, the family is waiting for answers and justice for the child they lost just days before his eighth birthday.
