Writer/director Sudip Sharma has opened up about his creative preferences, revealing that he currently has little interest in making the kind of big budget, star led films that dominate mainstream Hindi cinema. Sharma, known for creating acclaimed shows such as Paatal Lok and Kohrra, said the current film landscape does not necessarily offer the kind of stories he feels drawn towards. He explained that he is more attracted to narratives that allow characters, themes and worlds to develop over a longer format. According to the filmmaker, long form storytelling offers creators considerably more space to explore complex characters and their lives.

He believes the format allows writers to go deeper into themes and situations, something he currently finds more creatively rewarding than working within the limitations of a feature film. Sharma also admitted that he does not see himself as the ideal filmmaker for star driven projects. While big commercial movies continue to occupy a major place in the Hindi film industry, he said that particular style of cinema does not personally resonate with him. His comments reflect a creative approach that has been evident in his previous work. Rather than relying solely on star power, Sharma's projects have generally placed strong emphasis on layered characters, social realities and detailed storytelling.

The filmmaker has also contributed as a writer to films including NH10 and Udta Punjab. His most recent film writing credit is Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar, further highlighting his preference for stories that explore darker and more complex subjects. For now, Sharma appears more interested in exploring the possibilities of series based storytelling than immediately returning to the big screen as a director. However, he has left the door open to making a feature film in the future if the right story comes along. His candid comments offer an interesting perspective on the changing relationship between filmmakers and star led cinema, particularly at a time when streaming platforms have created more room for unconventional stories and character driven narratives.
