India has approved the transfer of selected missile technologies developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to the domestic defence industry, in a move aimed at giving a major boost to indigenous manufacturing. The decision is part of India’s broader push to strengthen its domestic defence ecosystem and reduce dependence on imported military equipment. By allowing private and public sector companies to access proven technologies, the government aims to accelerate the development and production of advanced defence systems within the country. The transfer of DRDO-developed technologies could help defence manufacturers build products using capabilities that have already undergone significant research and development.

This can potentially reduce development timelines and allow companies to focus on production, upgrades and commercialisation.
