Multiple Claude models and services experienced elevated error rates before Anthropic identified the cause and began working on a fix.

Anthropic’s Claude AI platform experienced a widespread outage on August 24, leaving thousands of users unable to access the service normally. The disruption affected users across several countries, including India, with problems reported across Claude’s chatbot and developer focused services. According to Anthropic’s official status page, the company began investigating elevated errors at around 5:06 UTC. The issue affected requests to multiple models, including Claude Mythos 5, Claude Fable 5, Claude Opus 5 and Claude Opus 4.8. Users reported difficulties with several parts of the Claude ecosystem. Problems were reported across Claude Chat, Claude Code, the Claude app, API services and Claude Cowork.

Outage monitoring reports showed a significant increase in complaints from users trying to access the platform. In India, users also reported disruptions. Reports indicated that Claude Code accounted for a significant share of complaints, while others faced problems with Claude Chat and the app. Some users also reported website errors, login difficulties and slow or failed responses. Anthropic later said it had identified the cause of the elevated errors affecting multiple Claude models and was working on a fix. The company subsequently reported that error rates had stabilised and continued monitoring the affected services. The incident was eventually marked resolved, with Anthropic stating that users had experienced elevated errors between approximately 04:50 UTC and 07:36 UTC.

The company did not publicly provide detailed technical information about the underlying cause in its status updates. The outage comes after several service disruptions involving Claude earlier in August. Anthropic’s status history shows incidents affecting multiple models and services on August 5, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20, highlighting a period of repeated technical issues. For users who rely on Claude for coding, research, writing and other professional tasks, even a temporary disruption can cause significant workflow interruptions. The latest incident once again highlights how heavily businesses and individuals have come to depend on cloud-based AI services. As of the latest update, Claude services have been restored, although Anthropic continues to monitor performance following the outage.
